Departing from Cairns, our journey heads south, passing the majestic Walsh’s Pyramid, one of the largest naturally formed pyramids in the world. Here, we pause for a photo opportunity of this unique North Queensland landmark.

As we ascend the World Heritage-listed Gillies Highway, climbing 730 metres above sea level, enjoy the stunning views over the Goldsborough Valley. A brief photo stop at Heales Lookout near the top of the Gillies Range offers panoramic vistas before we venture into the picturesque Atherton Tablelands.

Our first destination is the World Heritage Listed Lake Barrine Crater Lake National Park. Upon arrival, your tour guide will lead a short walk to the remarkable 1000-year-old Twin Kauri Pines, towering giants of the rainforest.

Savour a Devonshire morning tea with freshly-baked scones, before setting off for Yungaburra, a historical town home to Queensland’s largest number of Nationally Listed Heritage buildings. Experience a driving tour around this charming town, showcasing its many heritage structures.

The journey then takes us to the Curtain Fig Tree in the Curtain Fig Tree National Park. This remarkable 600-800-year-old epiphyte stretches over 45 metres into the tropical rainforest canopy. Follow the boardwalk with your guide to learn about its fascinating formation.

Look out for endemic wildlife in the rainforest canopy, including the rare Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo. We then pass through Malanda, known for Australia’s oldest continuously operating commercial picture theatre, exploring its quaint streets lined with historic buildings like the old pub and theatre.

Travelling through diverse farmlands including beef, dairy, and sugar cane, we reach Millaa Millaa Falls, one of Australia’s most photographed waterfalls. Choose to swim in its refreshing waters or relax and soak in the tranquil surroundings.

Descending the Palmerstone Highway through sugar cane and banana fields, we reach the coastal town of Innisfail, where a delicious lunch awaits. The next highlight is Paronella Park, where a 45-minute guided tour (available in English, Chinese, or Japanese) unfolds the rich history of Jose Paronella’s remarkable achievements and the construction of his Spanish Castle in the rainforest. Enjoy excellent photo opportunities of the stunning Mena Creek and Theresa Falls.

Spend approximately 2.5 hours at Paronella Park, with ample free time to explore the park at your own pace. Finally, we return to Cairns, concluding a day rich in natural beauty and historical intrigue.
