Exploring Dunk Island offers a nature-filled adventure, with the island’s majority being a national park. Visitors can follow the beach from the jetty to discover hiking tracks leading to Muggy Muggy Beach and Mount Kootaloo. These hikes range from easy to moderate, catering to various fitness levels. Additionally, the island provides excellent swimming opportunities in Brammo Bay and snorkelling to explore marine life at Muggy Muggy Beach. The ferry ride to Dunk Island includes a light breakfast and around 5.5 hours on the island (9.30 am – 3.00 pm).

Djiru National Park

The trip to Djiru National Park near Mission Beach is a scenic journey from Cairns, taking under two hours. It offers vistas of Queensland’s tallest mountains, Mount Bartle Frere and Mount Bellenden Kerr, and passes through agricultural landscapes, including cane fields and banana farms. The route also goes through dense Djiru National Park, a habitat for the elusive cassowary.
