About the Dunk Island Redevelopment
The Beach Club is the first stage of a broader redevelopment of Dunk Island led by Annie Cannon-Brookes and the Dunk Island Group, in partnership with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
Dunk Island was once home to a famous 4.5-star resort operated by Qantas and P&O, featuring 160 guest rooms, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, multiple restaurants and a day spa. The resort was severely damaged by Cyclone Yasi in February 2011 and has remained closed since.
After years of collapsed deals and false starts, Annie Cannon-Brookes purchased the island in 2022 with the stated intention of preserving its natural beauty while revitalising tourism on the island. The redevelopment has focused on sustainable, community-friendly tourism rather than a large-scale resort rebuild.
In addition to the Beach Club, recent upgrades include:
- Renovated public amenities (showers and toilets)
- Upgraded campsites on the Brammo Bay foreshore
- New glamping tents offering Far North Queensland’s only island glamping experience
The Dunk Island Group continues to work on revitalising the island while preserving its natural environment and supporting the local Mission Beach tourism industry.
